Cosmology: Observational Cosmology

Observational Cosmology is the branch of astronomy concerned with the origin, structure, and evolution of the Universe on the largest possible scale. [1] It includes the modern and ancient study of the Universe.

NASA's Observational Cosmology Laboratory [2] uses the scientific method to understand the origin, evolution and ultimate fate of the Universe, including:

  • What powered the big bang.
  • The size, shape, and matter-energy content of the Universe.
  • When the first stars and galaxies appeared and their evolution with Cosmic Time.
