The European Astronomical Society is an association founded under the Swiss Civil Code in 1990.
The purpose of the society is to contribute to and promote the advancement of astronomy, in its broadest sense, in Europe, by all suitable means and in particular:
a) by providing an independent forum for the discussion of subjects of common interest.
b) by providing means whereby action can be taken on those matters which appear desirable to be handled at the European level.
The Society has a Constitution defining the general rules (out of which the various items in these Web pages have been extracted), complemented by Bye-laws specifying various detailed procedures.
